WIF Crystal Lucy Awards 2010
|
I just got home from the WIF Crystal Lucy Awards 2010; A fabulous night of pioneering Film'Istas and fierce yet painful stilettos So painful in fact, Debra Messing, who was hosting, took her 6 inchers off halfway through the show and said "you saw them, you get the point" to which laughter errupted. I was late and unfortunately missed Colbie Callat's performance, but the food was fab and I got a quick chance to talk to Zoe Saldana afterward to let her know how proud I am whenever i see her on screen. She was extremely gracious. She received the Maxmara face of the future award this year, which was the main reason I was so excited for this years awards. She gave a great acceptance speech about being from Queens and not knowing the ins and outs of the business starting out so much so that she didn't know what SAG was when she landed her first paying commercial, "I just got paid, i have to give my money to what organization?!". She talked about what it has meant to her to be fortunate enough to reap the fruits of her mother and grandmother's struggle as immigrants to America. And she offered herself as first in line to play the world's first pregnant super hero; chasing down bad guys while holding a salami and hostage negotiating while downing a tub of ice cream. Everyone laughed, but I'm sure Bruckheimer already has that deal waiting for her. It would make a cool movie.
The celeb sightings were fun; David Arquette texting on his blackberry waiting for the valet, a few feet away while I waited in line to pay valet as well. He was waiting for his wife Courtney Cox-Arquette who was given the Lucy award tonight. When she walked by I wanted so bad to tell her how Friends is still my all-time favorite show and how i watch the re-runs and gut laugh everytime, no matter how many times I've seen the same episode, but her throng of handlers were in the way and I didn't want to be a nuisance, so next time. Isla Fisher walked past me and I didn't know she was pregant because I don't read gossip mags, which have probably told the whole world already. But her little perfect basketball belly bump was so cute it was hard not to look. Sally Field presented an award and I can't lie, i was in drop-jaw awe when she walked by my table and completely missed what the next presenter was saying. Vanessa Hudgens presented the Legendary Eva Marie Saint, and giggled the whole time. I think she was nervous, and I don't blame her.
Being in the same room with people who have worked so hard and accomplished so much, i am inspired once again. Next year I will not be sitting on the outer tier of that little auditorium, but down center where dreams as big as mine belong. I have a lot of work and a lot of writing to do before that happens, but in the meantime, I'm off to hug the kitties and open up my swag bag. The bags were huge! They weigh like 20 lbs this year! Whoo hoo for loot! G'night y'all! Chow Bella!
